Samsung Integrates AI-Driven Software Updates to Elevate Refrigerator and Laundry Appliance Longevity

Samsung Electronics has announced a significant update to its Tizen OS 10.0 that will be implemented in select refrigerator and laundry appliances starting September. These updates are designed to align older models with the advanced features offered on the latest 2023 releases.

Strategic Software Evolution

Jeong Seung Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics, emphasized the importance of continuous software innovation. “In our commitment to long-term product reliability, we focus on evolving both hardware and software aspects. These updates aim to enhance the lifecycle value of our products,” stated Moon.

Global Expansion of Bespoke AI Refrigerator Features

Following its May debut in the U.S., the AI-powered capabilities of the Bespoke AI Refrigerator Family Hub are now set for a global rollout. Equipped with AI Vision and Google Gemini, these refrigerators—spanning models from 2021 to 2025—will enhance user experiences by recognizing and cataloging a broader array of food items, including branded and regional products. Additionally, enhanced screen experiences such as ‘Now Brief’ and ‘What’s for Today?’ will offer personalized information to simplify meal planning.

Enhanced User Interaction with AI Laundry Appliances

Samsung is also bringing advanced software features to select Bespoke AI Laundry appliances launched in 2024 and 2025, integrating Bixby for improved voice-activated interactions. This update allows users to converse naturally with their appliances, simplifying tasks such as checking laundry completion times. Models equipped with 7-inch Smart Screens will also benefit from a revamped interface featuring ‘Easy Mode,’ designed to streamline user navigation and information access.

Rollout and Availability

The phased rollout of these updates will commence in September 2026. However, the availability of specific features will vary depending on the product model, year, and market. Users will receive notifications about updates directly on their appliance screens.
