Google Arts & Culture app revamped for 15th anniversary
The Google Arts & Culture app has undergone a significant redesign to celebrate its 15th anniversary, featuring a visually-oriented conversational search, interactive experiments, and extended city guides.
Marking this milestone, Google Arts & Culture has introduced a fresh design for its app, allowing users to engage with a new conversational search tool. This feature enables users to ask questions and explore curated stories drawn from archives worldwide. By updating the app, users can experience new interactive features, such as virtually trying on historical fashion or engaging in simulated conversations with renowned artists.
Over the past 15 years, Google Arts & Culture has collaborated with more than 3,000 cultural institutions and artists from over 90 countries. The aim has been to preserve and make global art and culture accessible to all, while providing experiences that educate, inspire, and entertain.
New Features and Enhancements
The update to the Google Arts & Culture mobile app offers a refreshed experience that facilitates easy navigation through vast archives. These include high-resolution artworks, 3D archaeological artifacts, fashion, performance art, sports, culinary heritage, natural history, and more.
Central to this update is a conversational search feature, which allows users to ask questions about arts and culture. Responses come with insightful explanations, visuals, and curated stories from partner archives. Whether curious about ‘Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro,’ searching for ‘impressionist museums in Paris,’ viewing ‘images captured by the Webb telescope,’ learning ‘what are bento boxes,’ or simply admiring ‘cats in art,’ users can ask questions in their own words.
Enhanced User Experience
The redesigned homepage organizes the app into a single, easy-to-browse feed for quick daily cultural discovery. Modular sections present bite-sized cultural stories, daily highlights, and direct links to interactive features. Among these are two new AI experiments: Chrono Look, which allows users to virtually try on historical outfits from various eras through sketches and realistic renderings, and Dial-an-Artist, a tool for simulated interactions with historical figures about their work.
Additionally, an expanded City Guide now includes 27 new destinations with local cultural landmarks and real-time cultural events. Users can explore daily cultural moments, exhibitions nearby, trending topics in world culture, and more interactive experiences.
The updated Google Arts & Culture app is being rolled out globally, available for download or update on Google Play and the Apple App Store. This marks the next chapter in cultural exploration.
