Utilising technology to empower students as digital citizens

A Year 7-9 teacher at Innovitaskolan in Helsingborg, Sweden, is pioneering the use of technology in education. Holding roles such as Digital Innovator, Democracy Developer, and Central Education Developer, this educator focuses on using technology to enhance the learning experience.

The aim is not to replace teachers but to provide students with opportunities to explore their curiosity and assume control over their learning journey. This teacher integrates tools like Google Sites, Gemini Notebook, and Google Vids into everyday teaching to guide students from merely consuming information to actively creating their own projects.

By designing collaborative sites, students can share their learning experiences, which significantly enhances their analytical skills. The use of self-paced study notebooks allows students to learn at their own speed, and with Vids, they can transform their ideas into engaging video presentations.

The goal is to ensure every child has the chance to collaborate, develop critical thinking skills, and find their unique voice. On World Teachers’ Day, the celebration highlights the amazing results that occur when excellent teaching is combined with supportive technology, preparing confident and capable children for the future.
