Paris Hilton becomes Android’s first icon in residence
Paris Hilton, who describes herself as an “undercover nerd,” has taken on a new role as Android’s very first icon in residence. With her passion for technology and creativity, Hilton developed her own app using Canvas, a platform that requires no coding skills. Her aim is to show that technology should not be intimidating.
Throughout her life, Hilton has had countless ideas, but often lacked a straightforward way to bring them to life. Best known for her glamorous persona, she has always had a keen interest in technology and a mind buzzing with business concepts and creative projects. Despite her enthusiasm, she found the technical aspect of creating technology daunting, as it often felt exclusive to those who understood complex programming languages.
When Hilton was invited by Google to explore tech creation as Android’s icon in residence, she anticipated learning about new tools. What she didn’t expect was a transformation in how she viewed the role of creativity in technology development. This collaboration revealed to her that technology could be accessible to anyone, not just those with technical expertise.
At Google’s campus, Hilton was able to experiment in a personalized “Sliv Lab,” where she worked with the Gemini project on Android. She collaborated with creative technologists and tested her ideas, finding the perfect environment to match her fast-moving, idea-rich mind. This led her to create ‘Iconic Ideas,’ a productivity app tailored to her unique thought process, using just three prompts in Canvas to bring her vision to life without writing any code.
Hilton was enthusiastic about sharing this empowering experience with others, especially young women. She hosted a group from the YMCA and Altadena Girls at Google’s campus for an Android innovation challenge. The participants used various Android tools, including Canvas and Circle to Search, to create solutions for real-world issues. The young women came up with impressive ideas, such as a wellbeing-focused social networking app, a virtual hairstyle try-on app, and an award-winning app designed to ensure girls’ safety on their walks home from school.
Hilton is thrilled to use her role to inspire others to turn their ideas into reality. She encourages people to visit android.com/paris to explore her creations, try out Iconic Ideas, and let their imagination run wild. By sharing their innovations with #IconicAndroid, she hopes to see a future shaped by diverse creators who bring unique perspectives to technology development.
The message is clear: the next big idea could just be a conversation away from becoming a reality.
