Apple unveils Siri AI, a more advanced and personalized assistant

TORONTO, ONTARIO — Apple has unveiled Siri AI, a completely new iteration of Siri driven by Apple Intelligence. This assistant offers enhanced capabilities and an improved conversational experience, understanding personal context, accessing extensive world knowledge, and being aware of onscreen content. Siri AI assists users by providing answers to web queries on a wide range of topics and retrieving relevant information from personal messages, emails, and photos. It includes a dedicated app for reviewing conversations across devices, an upgraded Visual Intelligence experience, and integrated writing tools. This new Siri is built with a bold new architecture focused on user privacy, utilizing the next generation of Apple Intelligence to deliver advanced understanding and systemwide functionality. Developers can begin testing these features today, with a beta version available to users later this year.

“We’re excited to introduce Siri AI, a dramatically more capable and conversational assistant designed to help users find information and get things done throughout the day,” stated Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “With access to broad world knowledge for up-to-date answers on virtually any topic, along with onscreen awareness and personal context understanding, Siri AI can help users take action across apps more naturally than ever.”

An Entirely New, Deeply Integrated Siri

Siri AI, powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence, reimagines Siri with more helpful and intelligent features. It offers detailed responses and enables natural back-and-forth conversations, aiding users in accomplishing more tasks.

This version utilizes Apple Intelligence, enabling Siri to understand personal context and assist users in finding information across messages, emails, and photos. For instance, users can ask Siri for a restaurant recommendation from a friend’s message, retrieve a hotel confirmation number from an old email, or display photos from a recent trip. The personal context understanding also extends to third-party apps integrated with Spotlight.

Siri AI also supports broader app actions, such as drafting emails, editing photos, and answering questions related to onscreen content. If a user receives a text about a potluck, Siri can help brainstorm what to bring and add a recipe to the Notes app.

Additionally, Siri AI can provide updated information from the web on various topics, like details of the next solar eclipse or a musician’s tour dates. Users can extend any Siri response into a deeper conversation with follow-up questions.

Users can engage with Siri AI across the system. Besides using “Hey Siri,” iPhone users can activate Siri with the side button or by swiping down from the Dynamic Island. On iPad and Mac, Siri AI integrates with Spotlight for comprehensive question answering and systemwide context menus for inquiries about images, files, or text. On Apple Vision Pro, users can use spatial computing with a 3D visualization and activate Siri by looking and speaking.

While on the move, users can access Siri AI on their iPhone, Apple Watch, CarPlay, and AirPods. Apple Watch users can start a conversation with Siri from their wrist, and a new Smart Stack suggestion can continue a recent discussion.

Rebuilt with a New Architecture

Siri has been reengineered from the ground up with powerful AI, leveraging a bold new architecture for Apple Intelligence. This includes the latest Apple Foundation Models operating on device and servers using Private Cloud Compute. Private Cloud Compute ensures personal data is neither stored nor accessible to Apple or others, with privacy verifiable by outside experts at any time. Siri AI also uses the system orchestrator to access core capabilities like the Spotlight index and App Toolbox, functioning entirely on device to maintain user data control.

Offering unprecedented privacy protection and powerful new features, Siri remains the world’s most private digital assistant.

Enhanced On-Device Model Capabilities

For products supporting Apple’s advanced on-device model, Siri AI offers more expressive voices and increased accuracy in systemwide dictation. Users can customize the expressiveness and pace of Siri’s voice. Dictation now captures spoken words as polished text with enhanced precision, automatically adjusting capitalization, punctuation, and formatting.

Improved speech understanding allows users to speak naturally, ensuring their words appear clearly and accurately.

New Siri App for Conversations

The new dedicated Siri app allows users to revisit past conversations or start new ones. The app uses iCloud to privately sync conversational history across devices, allowing seamless conversation continuation on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Apple Vision Pro.

Siri with Visual Intelligence on Multiple Devices

Siri now features powerful image understanding and multimodal capabilities, enabling users to inquire about visual content.

On iPhone, Siri’s multimodal capabilities are integrated into the Camera app with a new Siri mode, allowing users to get information and take action on visible content. Users can tap the shutter button for Siri’s assistance and access rich actions like splitting a bill with Apple Cash or obtaining nutritional insights.

Visual Intelligence with Siri is now available on iPad and Mac, enabling users to visually search, ask questions, and take actions on the screen. On iPad, Visual Intelligence integrates with screenshots, while on Mac, a keyboard shortcut allows users to interact directly with Siri for helpful responses.

Visual Intelligence also extends to Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to inquire about content or physical objects by simply looking at them.

Improved Writing and Editing Tools

Siri’s integrated Writing Tools are now more powerful, enabling writing assistance virtually anywhere text can be entered. Users can describe their needs, and Siri can generate a draft or refine existing content.

In Mail and Messages, Siri reflects users’ typical communication styles, including punctuation and tone. For example, if users usually send brief bullet points to their manager, that format will be produced when drafting an email with Siri. Siri also offers tips and suggestions to improve written work and automatically proofreads as users type across the system, including most third-party apps.

Additional Apple Intelligence Features

The next generation of Apple Intelligence introduces exciting updates to frequently used apps. These enhancements include powerful editing tools in Photos, innovative browsing features in Safari, new ways to express creativity in Image Playground, and more.
