Samsung Electronics Announces KRW 240 Billion Investment in Korean HVAC Production Facility

Samsung Electronics has revealed plans to establish a new HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) production line in Korea, aiming to capitalize on the burgeoning demand for advanced cooling solutions in various industrial sectors, including AI data centers.

Investment Details and Timeline

The company is committed to investing approximately KRW 240 billion (USD 158 million) to construct a 21,500 square meter facility at its Gwangju site. The project is slated for completion by 2028, at which point the production line will commence operations, manufacturing HVAC products from FläktGroup, a company Samsung acquired in the previous year.

Strategic Expansion Plans

Cheolgi Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Appliances (DA) Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “The acquisition of FläktGroup allows us to strategically expand our HVAC business, positioning us towards becoming a leading global entity by 2030. This investment in Korea solidifies our foundation to achieve this vision.”

FläktGroup has proactively expanded its manufacturing infrastructure, notably through Project GAGAN, a new facility in Pune, Maharashtra, India. With 14 operational manufacturing sites globally, FläktGroup supplies key markets, including the U.S., Europe, and India.

Targeting the Korean Market

The establishment of the Gwangju production line, Samsung’s 15th worldwide manufacturing facility, serves as a strategic initiative to penetrate the Korean market. Samsung intends to furnish HVAC infrastructure across multiple sectors, with a focus on the rising demand from AI data centers.

Leveraging Combined Expertise

David Dorney, CEO of FläktGroup, commented, “By merging Samsung’s expertise in AI with FläktGroup’s HVAC product capabilities, we aim to establish ourselves as the preferred HVAC partner in Korea and across Asia.”
